The 39th Annual Meeting of The Society for Organic Petrology will be held in Bogotá, Colombia in September 2022.

Colombia is known for many things of course – its divine coffee, the incredible hospitality of its people, the range of climates and the beautiful Andes. But what most people don’t know is that under that lovely exterior of rolling, green, fertile hills is some of the world’s most wonderful geology. It goes without saying that the geology drives petroleum and mining engineers crazy, but if you like geological puzzles, then you’ll love Colombia.

Appropriately, the hosts for the 39th Annual Meeting will be the Department of Geosciences of Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá at some 2500 meters up (8200 ft). To fit with the Colombian geology it is proposed that the meeting theme is “Organics in Complex Structural Settings”.

Colombia has some unique high altitude wetlands , which are fragile. Environmental concerns of human impact on these are of special interest and we hope to feature them in both presentations at the meeting as well in field excursions.

So, brush up on your Spanish, mark your calendar, be prepared for the best coffee, chocolate and fruit  in the world and check your frequent flyer miles because we’ll expect to see you in Bogotá!
